Make Home Pool Safety Fencing a Priority
Liberty Fence & Railing has been helping home pool owners for more than four decades. We manufacture and install PVC pool safety fences; and also install aluminum, chain link, wood grain vinyl, and vinyl stone.
Warmer weather signals the time for backyard pool activities. Whether it is splashing in the water, floating on a raft, or just lounging nearby, a pool is the center of summer fun for all ages. But with the fun, comes certain risks.
Sadly, drowning is the fifth leading cause of unintentional death in the United States, and roughly 20 percent of those who drown are children 14 years old and younger, according to the CDC. Children under the age of five are at the highest risk of drowning – it’s the top reason for accidental death in this age range. In addition, non-fatal drowning incidents can cause brain damage and other serious long-term disabilities.
Good Fences and Security Gates Make Safer Swimming Pools
Safety is the primary responsibility of the swimming pool owner, especially to safeguard young children – and pets – at home and around the neighborhood. Due to the life-threatening hazards posed by having a residential pool, municipalities have safety regulations, which include pool code fencing requirements.
In New York, fences around outdoor residential pools, spas, and hot tubs need to be at least 4 feet high and completely surround the pool. It must obstruct access to the pool and have a self-closing gate with a self-latching mechanism out of the reach of children. Pickets cannot be more than 4 inches apart and the space between the bottom of the pool safety fence and the ground may not exceed two inches.
This provides an extra layer of protection between all people and the swimming pool. There are also several other standards and codes homeowners with pools must comply with. Many lives can be saved by following these guidelines.
Your Priority is Safety
Liberty Fence & Railing actively works with local government offices to ensure pool safety laws are met by households in the community, and permits are issued for all fence installations. We urge homeowners to regularly check and maintain their pool fences. Ensure they are properly secure. Do not leave pool gates propped open and remove all climbable objects, including furniture, in close proximity to the fence.
Make sure you hire a licensed and insured fence company that knows and understands all the local pool code fence requirements – like Liberty Fence & Railing. We professionally install custom four-, five-, and six-foot privacy and semi-private pool barriers in a variety of colors and textures.
