How to Clean & Maintain Your PVC Vinyl Fence or Railing

One of the great things about PVC fences and outdoor railings is that they are maintenance-free and resistant to stains. Cleaning is rarely needed. That being said, just like any other outdoor product, it can become soiled over time. Usually, heavy rain or a simple rinse with a garden hose will have it looking as good as new.

If more care is necessary, Liberty Fence & Railing has some tips to quickly and safely get your vinyl fence or railing looking dirt-free. For light stains, use a Simple Green© or Soft Scrub© cleanser with a soft cloth.* If your PVC vinyl product needs extra attention, use these methods and a soft cloth or brush with soft bristles for the following types of heavier stains:

• Oil; grease; wax; crayon; grass stains; tar – use solvents such as mineral spirits, VM&P naphtha, or auto tar remover. Remove excess with a plastic or wood scraper.
• Ink, nail polish, paint, lipstick, gum – use cleaning fluid such as trichloroethylene. Remove excess with a plastic or wood scraper.
• Really tough, stubborn stains like removing graffiti – use Xylol Xylene lacquer thinner on a moist cloth and vigorously scrub. Rinse off with water.
• Mold and mildew – use a mixture of bleach and water on a cloth and scrub the area to remove the residue. Rinse off with water.
